Antiparasitic Guidelines
Over the past 30 years the WAAVP has taken the lead in laying a foundation for the international harmonisation of standards and procedures for the evaluation of anthelmintics, with a view to optimising technical benefits for agricultural and other users, and minimising the wastage of resource and the excessive usage of experimental animals inherent in satisfying a multiplicity of national requirements.
Gratifyingly, this far-sighted initiative has been highly influential and we welcome the progress made by VICH in harmonising regulatory requirements. Increasingly, VICH and other authorities laying the framework for registration procedures refer applicants to the WAAVP guidelines for guidance on technical aspects. Thus, the WAAVP guidelines still maintain an important role. The aim of the guidelines has always been to encourage best practice without being prescriptive. The authors cannot anticipate every specific set of local circumstances, and technologies evolve after guidelines are published.
Guidelines are published in the journal Veterinary Parasitology.
